Although Clerk Magistrate and Lantern Kronos faltered in the Hambletonian and Hambletonian Oaks, respectively, they both achieved redemption in the American National trots. Clerk Magistrate had been on top of his game with a win in the Goodtimes and Lantern Kronos had tasted victory in the Elegantimage. The Hambletonian and Hambo Oaks brought despair to connections of both horses, but they answered with wins in the American National and American National for distaffers.

The Kentuckiana Stallion Management Stakes at Indiana Downs was won by one hot momma, Margarita Momma. The filly's time equaled the track record and set her own lifetime mark after a third-place finish in the Merrie Annabelle final. Dean Hoffman takes a look at how her maternal line has affected her need for speed.

In light of the recent Democratic National Convention, weekly contributor Andrew Cohen imagines what a Harness National "Convention" might look like in his Wire To Wire column. His make-believe convention would run four days, each with their own theme: The Platform, Integrity, Tribute to Trotters and Tribute to Pacers. Each evening would include keynote speakers and industry leaders and would focus on bettering the industry as a whole.
